Paul Hattaway, one of the most knowledgeable people on the church in China you will find today, has evidence of up to 100 million Christians in China. We have no reason to doubt that figure.
Two million Bibles are being produced annually in Nanjing with government approval. We don’t know if this figure will continue to fall.
We can calculate that over 30 million Bibles were legally printed in China over the past two decades. This is a commendable effort but most Christians now without Bibles will have to wait for many years to receive a personal copy of the Scriptures. Many could go through their whole Christian life without a Bible.
Then there are the 20,000 born again every day. Where is their personal copy of the Word coming from? In short, there is still a desperate shortage of Bibles in China. We praise God for your help over the years in supporting this ministry. We believe there is no more worthwhile investment in missions today.
The budget:
AsiaLink’s people inside China can print and distribute one copy of the Bible for £1.50. Our Bible Partners pledge £15 each month to put 120 Bibles into the hands of Chinese people each year. Some may be recently born again, some have spent a life time with God without a copy of His Word and some will be seekers. Multiples of £15, or whatever you can give regularly, will be welcomed by the church in China.
Of course, single donations will have a great impact too. Just £1.50 will make a massive difference in someone’s life. Or maybe your church or group could get together and supply 100 Bibles (£150) or even 500 (£750).
What to do:
Whatever you do, please pray for this project. Pray that a shortage of Bibles would not prevent the amazing expansion of the Kingdom in China.
